SENIOR COST ACCOUNTANT

Location: Brooklyn, NY
Employment Type: Full-Time

JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to the CFO, the Senior Cost Accountant will be responsible for all worldwide cost accounting functions. As a key member of the finance and accounting team, this position will have primary financial responsibility for all US manufacturing and distribution operations and serve as a liaison with international plants and subsidiaries. Success is achieved by utilizing a thorough understanding of the manufacturing process to develop detailed and accurate costs in addition to providing relevant financial support to senior management through cost analysis and monthly reporting.

MAJOR JOB DUTIES

Financial Reporting & Compliance
  • Plan, organize and direct all the activities of the cost accounting function in support of monthly close activities, including preparation of journal entries and accruals
  • Review and reconcile all inventory account valuations including:
    • Raw material, WIP and finished goods
    • Consignment and intercompany inventory transactions
    • Consignment and intercompany inventory transactions
    • Inventory turns and capitalized variances
  • Define policies and procedures for all cost accounting and inventory activities
  • Assist in implementation and compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley Section 404
  • Support audit schedules and other related audit events
  • Provides assistance to other US and international accounting teams
Product Costing and Systems
  • Develop / Implement / Maintain a standard product cost system including:
    • BOMs and routers
    • Plant labor and overhead rates
    • Allocations
    • Purchased price costing
  • Coordinate with IT department on ERP system maintenance and developments to improve the cost accounting function and timeliness of reporting
  • Partner with business leaders, participate in on-going physical inventory and cycle counts, ensuring accuracy of inventory counts, analyzing results, book-to-physical reconciliations, investigating and resolving variances.
Financial Planning and Analysis
  • Provide analytical insight and support of:
    • Manufacturing variances
    • Purchase price variances
    • Manufacturing resources and cost center spend
    • Inventory reserves, adjustments and scrap
  • Develop metrics and tracking system for major cost drivers and drive communication of results with respective business leaders.
  • Support the development of budgets and forecasts for product spend and costing
  • Proactive analysis of variances and communication of issues and opportunities
  • Support financial analysis and reporting for capital expenditures including analysis of ROIs.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
  • 5 - 10 years of progressive experience in cost accounting and analysis.
  • Significant US GAAP and cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Strong working knowledge of Information Systems (ERP, MRP, etc.). Experience with MAPICS and AS400 environment, a plus.
  • Strong analytical and MS office skills, especially Excel.
  • Experienced in interacting with (internal and external) manufacturing, engineering, quality, purchasing, production control, materials, and other functional areas of a manufacturing business.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform complex financial analysis related to manufacturing activities and develop solutions that improve accuracy, efficiency and timeliness.
  • Demonstrated leadership and history of driving change with a sense of urgency
  • Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to clearly and concisely communicate with non-accounting professionals
  • Must be either a U.S. Citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident due to ITAR compliance.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent.
  • CMA, and /or MBA a plus
