Calibration Policy & Third-Party Services
Governing calibration, verification, maintenance, and related service activities for all test and measurement equipment sold, serviced, or supported by Mini-Circuits.
Importance of Accurate Calibration
Accurate calibration is essential to maintain reliable, traceable, and compliant measurement performance. Improper or incomplete calibration significantly increases the risk of incorrect test outcomes, compromised product quality, and operational or regulatory failures. Industry analyses show that non-comprehensive calibration performed by some providers may test fewer than half of an instrument's specifications, leading to severe accuracy uncertainties.
This Calibration Policy governs the calibration, verification, maintenance, and related service activities for all test and measurement ("T&M") equipment sold, serviced, or supported by Mini-Circuits. It applies to calibration performed directly by Mini-Circuits, by its authorized service centers, and by approved third-party calibration partners.
Mini-Circuits Instrument Calibration Cycle
| Instrument | Calibration Cycle |
|---|---|
| Power Sensors (PWR Series) | 1 year |
| Frequency Counter / Power Sensors (FCPM Series) | 1 year |
| Signal Generators (SSG Series) | 2 years |
Calibration Services Provided by the Company
Mini-Circuits offers calibration services designed to ensure:
- Measurement traceability to national and international standards
- Verification of performance against instrument specifications
- Adjustment or repair when instruments are found out of tolerance
- Documentation of calibration results with certificates and data
Third-Party Calibration
Mini-Circuits recommends third-party calibration laboratories to support customer needs for geographic coverage, turnaround time, or multi-brand system requirements. Mini-Circuits can also provide instructions to customer-preferred partners or for in-house calibration at the company. Below is a list of global calibration partners.
- North America: Agile Calibration
- Germany and DACH: ESZ AG
- Worldwide Locations: Micro Precision Calibration
Note: contact details/links for these partners are not yet included — add real URLs before publishing.
Third-Party Provider Responsibilities
Third-party calibration partners must:
- Meet applicable accreditation standards (e.g., ISO/IEC 17025)
- Maintain documented traceability to recognized metrology standards
- Provide detailed calibration results, including data when required
- Adhere to safe handling procedures for customer equipment
Industry examples show that reputable third-party labs can provide accredited, multi-brand calibration services that match or complement OEM requirements.
Limitations of Third-Party Calibration
Mini-Circuits does not guarantee, certify, or warrant the performance, methods, or completeness of calibration services performed by any unauthorized third-party laboratory.
Unlike manufacturer calibration services, which may include proprietary adjustments and internal reference standards, most third-party services provide measurement results without performing instrument-specific adjustments when performance falls outside tolerance.
Customer Obligations When Using Third-Party Calibration
Customers choosing third-party calibration are responsible for ensuring that:
- Calibration vendors are qualified for the required measurement scope
- The calibration performed meets the customer's internal quality, industry, or regulatory requirements
- Any deviations, non-conformances, or limitations identified in third-party calibration certificates are evaluated and addressed
Manufacturer Calibration Requirements
Certain instruments may require return to Mini-Circuits or an authorized service center for:
- Proprietary alignment procedures
- Firmware or software updates
- Hardware adjustments or repairs that third-party labs cannot perform
Manufacturer calibration typically uses the same test systems and processes used during production, ensuring maximum performance and consistency across global service centers.
Repairs, Adjustments & Return Services
Repairs or adjustments identified during calibration may only be performed by Mini-Circuits or authorized service partners. Customers must not authorize repairs from unapproved entities if the equipment is under warranty or subject to a service contract.
Industry examples show streamlined processes for returns and repairs handled by official manufacturer channels, which ensure compliance and protect equipment integrity.
Warranty Implications
Mini-Circuits' product warranty may be voided if:
- Calibration or repair is performed by non-authorized service entities
- Improper calibration leads to damage, misalignment, or compromised measurement integrity
Approved third-party calibration partners identified by the Provider do not affect warranty coverage unless explicitly stated.
Liability Disclaimer
Mini-Circuits shall not be liable for:
- Inaccurate measurements or performance deviations resulting from third-party calibration
- Equipment failures caused by improper or incomplete calibration
- Operational, financial, or regulatory damages arising from use of unqualified calibration providers
Policy Modifications
This Policy may be updated periodically to reflect changes in technology, regulations, or industry practices. Continued use of calibration services constitutes acceptance of the most current version of this Policy.
